Location-  Sessions can last anywhere from 2-4 hours. I am always open to ideas for location or I can suggest one that will fit your family’s style. From funky to urban to classic to modern, we can work together to create an ideal on location shoot. I also have a portable studio that I can bring to your home; this is great for newborn sessions.

Newborn- The best time to book a newborn session is within the first two weeks of life. I recommend booking a newborn session while you’re still pregnant, then we can adjust the actual session date once your little one arrives within that 2 week window. A newborn session can take anywhere from 2-4 hours. I accommodate the baby’s needs; therefore they are in control of the shoot. Clothing- less is more with a newborn. They photography beautifully nude, all bundled up, or slightly wrapped in blankets. I have a great collection of hats, headbands, blankets, cocoons, baskets and miscellaneous props. Please feel free to incorporate anything sentimental as well; after all it is your shoot.

Maternity-  If you would like a maternity collection, I suggest we arrange the session for around 34-38 weeks into your pregnancy. Flowy skirts, tube tops, jeans, scarves that can be wrapped around your chest, tank tops, tight fitted dress that show off your baby bump, a nice set of underwear, and manicured nails (as your hands will be posed on your belly a lot) make for great maternity portraits.

Family Sessions- Are allotted 2-3 hours for a session. The session fee will cover for up to 5 family members; each additional family member will be $15 each. Your wardrobe is important, but I want you to feel comfortable in whatever you choose because this will shine through in your photographs. Keep it simple; avoid busy patterns or any kind of logo. For group shots, coordinating colors work best, different hues of a certain color. Exact matches aren’t necessary.

Weddings-  You and your future spouse are unique, and so is your wedding. Due to this it is hard to put general information about your wedding day without hearing all about your vision and what you want for the big day. Please contact me for more information about weddings by using the contact form.

The photographic art you choose to place on your wall is ultimately the result and vision of the photographer. I dedicate 2-4 hours of my time to your family and will not rush your session. I love taking photographs and guarantee that you will feel that every minute of your session. The creativity put into the session as well as within the final product will be much more personalized and tailored to your family.

 I am not just another person with a good camera who decided to start a “business”.  I spend hours trying new things, finding new ways and aim to add something new to each session I have. I want to capture moments to last a lifetime that you will proudly display in your homes and cherish for years to come.

Where are you located?

I live in Raleigh, North Carolina and serve the surrounding areas- Cary, Durham, Garner, Knightdale, Wake Forest, etc.

Where should we go for our session?

Where magic lives and where natural light abounds. I have a variety of locations in mind and am open to any suggestions.

 What time of day should we meet?

Photographers call it the magic hour for a reason, the lighting is magical: early morning (at sunset or soon after) or late afternoon (2 to 3 hours before sunset is ideal)

 When should I book a newborn session?

I suggest within the first two weeks, when your baby is sleepy and bendy—and new! Let me know your due date well in advance (I recommend you contact me before your third trimester to avoid me being booked) and I’ll keep some time free around that time. Call me once your precious bundle arrives (within 2 weeks) and we’ll finalize a day. Please don’t wait until your baby is born because I can’t guarantee to fit you in while they’re still tiny.

 When should I book a Maternity session?

Around 30 weeks is ideal—when you have a big, round belly but still feel comfortable and beautiful.

 What should we wear?

Your wardrobe is important, but I want you to feel comfortable in whatever you choose because this will shine through in your photographs. Keep it simple; avoid busy patterns, stripes or any kind of logo. For group shots, coordinating colors work best, different hues of a certain color. Exact matches aren’t necessary.

 What if it rains?

 I’ll touch base the night before or morning of the shoot if rain is predicted so we can discuss options. We might reschedule for a drier day. Or we can just tough it out in our rain boots and umbrellas. Puddles and rain can make some magical photos!

 What happens after the session?

With your permission (signed contract), I’ll give you a sneak peak on Facebook within 72 hours. Within 2 weeks I’ll send you your gallery of at least 30 custom curated, edited, high-resolution photos on a custom USB drive with a photo release so that you can print and create products to your heart’s desire.

 How do we pay?

You can choose to pay in full or pay the $100 deposit when you book the session. The balance is due the day we meet. You can pay via PayPal, cash, or check (payable to Jessica Rivera).

 I’m excited! How can I book?

Please contact me regarding what type of session you would like to book and one to two preferred dates. I’ll do my best to accommodate you. Weekends and weekday evenings are usually best for me.  Please understand that I work a full time job as well so I only schedule a certain amount of sessions each month. For newborns, let me know your due date. We’ll tentatively pencil something in and confirm the date as soon as your baby arrives.

 Do you photograph Weddings? 

Yes, I do engagement photos as well. My wedding and engagement style is similar to my portrait style so if that’s what you’re after, give me a call to chat about your big day!

 How many photos will we get? 

Your gallery will have at least 30 (usually more!) fully retouched images from your  session along with watermarked images to share online – I only show and spend time editing the best because I know my clients only want the very best!

 Why are digital files so expensive? 

I put a lot of time and effort into creating the perfect pictures for you. Your digital files will last forever, you can print them out as many times as you want, create products on your own and they are equally as treasured – most of my clients know and understand this, and that’s why my digital files are all that I offer.

 Why do photographers charge so much?

Would you go to a surgeon who was charging a starting out special because they just purchased a scalpel last week or would you take a chance on highlights from a hairdresser who bought a home hair dying kit with no cosmetology license? Likewise, I would never trust someone who just got a new camera, who hasn’t had some kind of technical and artistic training and experience to capture the very essence of my family. You need to choose a photographer you know can deliver images to your satisfaction to hand down to the next generation, not one you’re just taking a chance on. That’s my belief, that’s my approach and that’s what I aim to give every client. I have spent years of blood, sweat and tears into honing my craft and defining my style.
